GB-Luton: ITU 2 (Ward 6) UPS and Room 39-020-18 WC & Shower Convert to Storage Room
Project Scope
TB+A were engaged to develop the brief with the Trust and prepare a performance specification for the
project to be procured on a design and build basis
Ward 6 is located at level two of Block 39 and since the outbreak of Covid-19, this ward has been misused
as an eight bed Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) which has no IPS or UPS provision. This clinical area is
defined at a HTM06-01 clinical risk A area, with BS7671 Chapter 710 medical locations classification of a
Group 2 area.
Recent generator tests have identified to the Trust ESG that this area is non-compliant with
recommendations of HTM06-01 and is to be urgently addressed. This is a temporary solution as the beds
located in this department will be relocated to the new Acute services block in 2024.
This proposal is for UPS provision and UPS/IPS outlets within parts of the ward and electrical services, plus
mechanical cooling and ventilation to the new equipment only, and does not check or try to provide
compliance with any other engineering services systems.
In reaching the production of the performance suite of documents, a structured briefing process has been
undertaken through meetings and workshops with the Trust.
The Contractor shall continue this method of working to obtain sign off at all remaining RIBA Stages as
defined within BSRIA Guide BG 6/2018.
