2683/JN – Near-Field Optical Nano-Spectroscopy and Imaging System
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sheffield, with funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) requires a near-field optical nano-spectroscopy and imaging system operating in a wide range of wavelength from visible to mid-infrared. The system is for a very broad multi-disciplinary user base, and thus requires user-friendly computer interface and hardware for operation of spectroscopy and imaging experiments, and possibility for quick turn-around when changing the samples, and switching between specific experimental methods, lasers or wavelength ranges. The proposed multi-user system will be based on a high resolution atomic force microscope (AFM). It will further include several pulsed and continuous wave lasers suitable for tip-enhanced optical spectroscopy and imaging methods, as well as a suitable light detection apparatus to provide high signal-to-noise detection of elastically scattered light. Further provisions in the design of the system will be needed for its use in tip-enhanced Raman, tip-enhanced fluorescence, and tip-enhanced ultra-fast pump-probe experiments.
