Taxi Tenders
Who Commissions Taxi Tenders?
Taxi tenders are commissioned by a wide range of public bodies, including local authorities, educational establishments and the NHS.
Local authority taxi tenders often require taxi services to take children to school and other locations within a county area. These are often known as ‘home to school transport tenders’. Tenders can be split into lots based on geographical location taxi routes or based on specific requirements such as vehicle type e.g. minibus, disabled access vehicles etc. Other specialisms within the tender can involve taxi services for protected/vulnerable adults or for children with complex medical or behavioural needs.
Certain taxi service tenders have requirements for bidders to provide not only a driver but also a passenger assistant, with this individual receiving additional training based on the needs of the passenger.
Some organisations may release a taxi service tender to provide a taxi solution for their members of staff to get to and from work or client sites. Examples of these tenders might be for the BBC or Houses Of Parliament.
What Is Normally Involved In Taxi Tenders?
Your Tender Team assists clients with taxi service tenders all over the UK. There are common question topics that occur that require a lengthy narrative response. Question themes often include:
- Taxi Fleet – range of vehicles available for the contract such as size and type of vehicle, disabled access, servicing and maintenance plans, and ‘green’ credentials (e.g. ULEV).
- Drivers – including how many are directly employed and the screening and selection arrangements for these. If subcontractors are to be used, the commissioner may seek additional assurances of quality and reliability. DBS checks are required, further information can be found HERE.
- Safeguarding – precautions and training based on the passengers being transported.
- Systems – route and call/journey logging, reliability and time keeping. Commissioners may also request information on any booking app you might have in place and the key features of this. Such a system may need to be required for tracking a number of the service KPIs.
As part of the evaluation process there will be a stated weighting of both quality and price. There will also be a financial assessment of bidders for the tender. It is important for the bidder to understand what is involved with this side of the tender as it’s likely to be assessed before any other part of the tender so it is possible to fall at the first hurdle!
Taxi service tenders can also stipulate that bidders have ISO accreditation. Common requirements are for ISO9001 for Quality Management and ISO14001 for Environmental Management. We can help assist you on the pathway to ISO accreditation. Please visit our ISO PAGE for more info.
